We're going to begin with a short clip from the documentary, "World War II From Space". We will have a brief discussion about how those events were possible.
Next, I'm going to pass out a 4-page handout (or 2 pages 2 sided) and we will begin working on it together.
- You will pair up with someone in class and brainstorm some things you know about the following dictators. Take notes in the chart on the handout and then we will watch some short movie clips
- Josef Stalin (Russia) ** we will skip this one today.
- Mussolini (Italy)
- Hitler (Germany)
- Tojo (Japan)
- Next we will watch video clips of some of the dictators. Write down some descriptive words for each of the dictators we cover.
Next we will discuss the following terms and list examples of each.
- Nationalism
- Militarism
- Totalitarianism
- Fascism
- Dictator
Next you will use your textbook to research and complete the chart about 4 dictators.
Finally we will have a writing prompt which will ask you to write a strong paragraph about dictators , their common characteristics, what role nationalism and militarism played within their dictatorships, and how the dictators were allowed to rise to power.
